Turner Tillman Hooker

Turner Tillman Hooker, 89, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Fellowship Home in Brooks County. Mr. Hooker was born May 14, 1925, in Hahira, Georgia, to the late Simeon G. and Minnie Bailey Hooker. He attended Pine Grove Elementary school and was a lifelong resident of this area. He was married to Mabel Shope Hooker until her death In 1962, and then to Carolyn Castles Hooker until her death in 2009.

Mr. Hooker owned and operated the Texaco on Hill Avenue for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted in August of 1944. He served in the United States Army 410th Infantry Division and was recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Medal and Bronze Battle Star. He Fought in the Battle of the Rhineland and was wounded in action in Nancy, France in the European Theater on March 15, 1945, and subsequently received the Purple Heart.

Survivors include his daughter, Kaye Hooker Oliver of Roswell; his granddaughter and her husband, Catharine & Evan McLaughlin of Milton; four great grandchildren, Catharine Keller McLaughlin, William Hynds McLaughlin, Charles Miller McLaughlin and Morgan Oliver McLaughlin, all of Milton, and numerous special nephews and nieces and special neighbors and friends. He is preceded in death his daughter, Teresa Darlene Hooker, great grandson, Evan Coulter McLaughlin, Jr., son in law, Charles Morgan Oliver, a grandson Charles Eugene Oliver II, and six brothers and two sisters.

Special thanks to his neighbors, the Rowells, and to his constant caregivers Melissa Wiseman, Mary Alice Tucker, Harriet Mobley, Stephanie Kennedy, Vida Boyd, Kathy Stone, Geraldine Collins, Katrina Stroud, the Lahood family, Henry Joiner, Mert Nobles and all those who comforted him in his final days at Fellowship Home.

A graveside funeral service for Mr. Hooker will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday October 12, 2014 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Evan McLaughlin will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. Military honors will be rendered at the graveside.
