TRUDIE SMITH THORNTON, 62, of Hahira died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at her home. She was born in Waycross on August 15, 1945 to the late Carl Clifford Smith, Sr. and Alrethea Hayward Smith and had lived in Hahira for the past eight years. Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear and was currently employed as a security officer with Securtia Company. She served as a security officer for Lowe's Distribution Center and Wild Adventures.
Survivors include a brother and sister in law, Carl Clifford, Jr. and Nancy Smith of Brunswick, a sister, Anna Lee Chambers of Illnois, three aunts, Catherine Jordan and Ellen Clark both of Jacksonville, Fla and Trudie Corley of Avon Park, Fla. and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Randall (J.R.) Thornton.
Memorial services will be held at 6pm, Friday, June 20, 2008 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Thornton's cremains will be intered in the Lott Cemetery in Waycross.
