Tony Boykin, 66, of Barney, died on Thursday, January 23, 2025 following a sudden illness. Born in Hahira to the late Billy Donald & Betty Sue Horne Boykin, he was a lifelong resident of this area. Growing up in Valdosta, Tony attended Valdosta High School, but soon went to work in the roofing business. He began working at Lowndes Roofing in the mid 1970’s and worked there for several years before going to work for Bi State Roofing in Lakeland. Then, in the mid 1990’s, he started Tony Boykin Roofing and he operated that with his brother for over 30 years. In his later years, he drove a school bus for the Lowndes County School System up to the current time. Tony loved being involved in outdoor activities, whether it involved making a mud boggin buggy or hunting coon in the hunting club or most recently, doing donuts in the snow. Tony enjoyed life and loved spending time with family and friends the most.
Survivors include his son, Clay Boykin of Eclectic, AL; his daughter and son in law, Dawn & Gary Brown of Greenville, SC; his beloved pet and partner in crime, Phoebe of Barney; a sister and brother-in-law, Amy & Michael Hendley of Tifton; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Roger Boykin, Joe Boykin and Pete & Rachel Boykin, all of Hahira. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. He is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Andy & Sharon Boykin.
The funeral for Tony will be held at 2 pm on Monday, January 27, 2025, in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. Rev. Wayne Boykin will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Hahira. The family will receive friends at Martin/McLane Sunday evening January 26, 2025, from 6 until 8 pm.
