Tommy E. Delk, 70 of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born on August 14, 1935 in Axson GA, he was the son of the late Tharpe and Lucille White Delk.
Mr. Delk was a retired plant manager for Colonial Bag Company and a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He spent his last years at home with his wife and best friend “Peanut.” He enjoyed spending time at his fish pond and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife, Karen Delk of Valdosta; two sons, James E. Delk, Sr. and Michael Steed both of Valdosta; three daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra Deal of Maclenny, FL, Debra Delk of Lakeland, GA, Machelle and Robert Powell of Tifton, GA; grandchildren, Cathy Hutchins, John Thomas Bryan, Tracy Cox, Tina Cox, Don Cox, Thomas E. Delk III, Amanda Delk, James E. Delk, Jr., Jason Delk, Jennifer Delk, Elly Steed, Tiffany Hughes; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Joseph and Hazel Delk of Uvalda, William Delk of Blackshear, Glenn and Claudette Delk of West Palm Beach FL; two sisters and brothers-in-law JoAnn and Buddy Miller of Yulee, FL and Betty and Ware Gurley of Atlanta, GA. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Willie and Thorpe “Little” Delk and one son Thomas E. Delk, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Skip Van Nus officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia.
