Tommy D. Rogers

Tommy D. Rogers, 84, of Quitman, died Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at his residence. He was born in Valdosta on June 26, 1923 to the late L. J. (Buck) and Mamie Leola Smith Rogers. Mr. Rogers was a retired letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1942 to 1944, was a member of Westside Baptist Church and pastored three area southern Baptist churches. He was an avid golfer.

Mr. Rogers is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Deborah and Jack Sikes of Quitman, Judy and Craig Friis of Lake Park, two sons and daughters in law, Ronald R. and Jan Rogers of Valdosta, Lanny (Bo) and Deanna Rogers of Wilsonville, Oregon, ten grandchildren, Shanna Yorkey (Tim), Richard Rogers (Stacy), Robert Rogers (Stephanie), Dena Hunt, Micah Riggle (Amanda), Brandi Ratcliffe (Reef), Holly Rogers, Lanny (Bo) Rogers II (Missy), Zachary Friis and Amber Friis (Teo), nineteen great grandchildren and one on the way, dear golfing friend, Cecil Finfrock, two sisters in law, Louise Rogers of Valdosta and Evelyn Rogers of Alapaha. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Marie Ward Rogers, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007 at two p. m. at Westside Baptist Church with Dr. Ernie Jones, Reverend Cecil Finfrock and Mr. Micah Riggle officiating. He will lie in state from 12:30 p. m. until service time. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from seven until nine p. m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia or to the building fund at Westside Baptist Church.
