Tom Studstill, 80, of Valdosta died Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta from injuries sustained in an accident after a period of declining health. He was born on August 31, 1930 in Ray City to the late Thomas Julian, Sr. and Maudell Vaughn Studstill. Mr. Studstill was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He graduated from Georgia Southwest College in Americus and joined the United States Air Force. Mr. Studstill moved with his family from Fitzgerald in the mid-1970's and founded Dosta Construction, a paving company that he owned and operated for forty years. After retirement he loved spending time with his family, friends and working in his yard. Mr. Studstill loved being a granddad and seeing his grandchildren frequently.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years. Pat Studstill of Valdosta, daughter and son in law, Margaret and Tommy Smith of Valdosta, son, Tom Studstill, III of Lake Park, grandchildren and their spouses, Nicholas and Heather Smith, Christopher and Naureen Smith all of Hahira, Kellie and Clint Tinley of North Augusta, Stacie Studstill of Augusta and Camryn Studstill of Lake Park, one great granddaughter, Caroline Smith of Hahira, one sister, Jean Giddens of Ray City, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Studstill.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Park Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. V. L. Daughtery and Rev. Hale Bishop officiating. Entombment will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
