Thomas (Tommy) Ganas

Thomas (Tommy) Ganas, 74, of Hahira died Monday, December 5, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. He was born on September 27, 1937 in Valdosta to the late Pete and Julia Mae Odum Ganas and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Ganas was affiliated with Bethany Baptist Church, retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sargeant and the Department of Corrections. He was a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, the VFW and the American Legion. Mr. Ganas was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jean Bellflowers Ganas of Hahira, two daughters and sons in law, Alicia Yorkey of Madison, WI., Mechelle and David Garschagen of Quitman, one son and daughter in law, Jody and Monica Ganas of Mineral Bluff, GA., six grandchildren, Rebecca (Mitchell) Brice, Paige (Trevor) Maiden, Andrew Yorkey, Zeke Garschagen, Grace Ganas and Griffin Ganas, three great grandchildren, Zach Brice, John Turner Brice, Barrett Maiden, one brother and sister in law, Chris and Zena Ganas of Savannah, nephew, Pete (Richard) Ganas of Valdosta, numerous other nieces, nephews and family members. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Anthony Wells, two brothers, Pete Ganas, Jr. and Johnny Ganas and two sisters, Catherine Yale and Mary Howard.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Thursday, December 8, 2011 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Clyde Stokes officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
