Thomas Richard Tharp, 77, of Hahira, died on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Fellowship Home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Valdosta on September 2, 1946, to the late James G. and Billie Gray Tharp. Mr. Tharp retired from Children’s Friend Inc. as the director of physical facilities. He also served on the executive committee for Children's Friend Inc. and his input to the organization, even after retirement, was invaluable. In times past, he loved playing golf, and was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
Mr. Tharp is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nelma Tharp of Hahira; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cynamon and Kevin Willis of Naylor and Jennifer McDonald of Hahira; his grandchildren, Wyatt Willis and his fiancée Bri Missildine of Hahira, Tyler Willis and his fiancée Haley Peterson of Valdosta, and Jessica Willis of Jacksonville, Florida; his great-granddaughter, Eloise Willis of Valdosta; a sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Johnny Barber of Texas, and a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Connie Tharp of Welaka, Florida, and many other loving family members.
Services for Thomas Richard Tharp will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Gay officiating. The entombment will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. until service time at Crossroads Baptist. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroad Baptist Church Build a Legacy Fund, Langdale Hospice House, and/or The Mailbox Club.
