Thomas Gene Rusk

Thomas Gene Rusk, 90, formerly of Lake Park, died on Monday, December 28, 2105 at Fellowship Nursing Home in Valdosta following a short illness. He was born on September 23, 1925 in Danville, Illinois to the late Cash and Katherine (Kate) Garrett Rusk. He graduated from Veedersburg Indiana High School in May 1944 and was drafted into the United States Army in May 1945 and was part of the American forces that occupied Japan at the end of WWII. He was discharged in December 1946 the re-enlisted in the Army in 1948 and served until his retirement in 1967. On February 12, 1949, Tom married the former Myeerah Keller at Fort Lee, Virginia. During his 23 years of active service, his duty assignments took him to places like Alaska, Korea, Chile, and Newfoundland, just to name a few. He retired from the Army as Sergeant First Class and was a specialist in Supply and Maintenance. After retirement, the family moved to Lake Park where he was employed with Grassy Pond Recreation Area. Tom was also a qualified small engine repair specialist, and avid fisherman, hunter and golfer

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Lorna Rusk of Veedersburg, Indiana, a brother, Roy Rusk of South Hutchinson, Kansas, and a sister, Mary Josephine Rusk Livengood of Lafayette, Indiana; long-time close friends, Sidney and Darlene Wild and their daughter Theresa Smith of Lake Park; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Rusk was preceded in death by his wife, Myeerah Keller Rusk and their children, Michael Rusk, William Rusk, and Sandra Rusk Lane; brothers, Robert Rusk, Cash Rusk, Jr., and David Rusk, and a sister, Patricia Rusk Marrow.

A graveside service for Thomas Gene Rusk will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2015 at Lake Park Cemetery with Dr. Skip Van Nus officiating.
