Thomas E. "Tommy" Dixon, Sr.

Thomas E. "Tommy" Dixon, Sr., 72, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died at his home on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Born in Jennings, Florida on November 16, 1942, he was the son of the late Thomas Harvey and Lona Myrl Hicks Dixon. At an early age Tommy moved to Twin Lakes, Georgia. Following High School, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country for several years. On discharge from the Army he returned to Valdosta and soon began driving a truck. His career in trucking spanned more than forty years. He drove for Bullochs Lumber, Parramore Griffin Chemical Company and Bayliner. He then drove for about 8 years as an independent truck driver before retiring in 2009. All his life he was a hard worker and he enjoyed tinkering on old vehicles in his spare time.
Survivors are his wife, Joyce Dixon of Valdosta; sons, Thomas Edward Dixon, Jr. of Lakeland, Donald Gerald Dixon and Bobby Lee Dixon both of Clyattville; daughter, Fancy Caroline Dixon of Lakeland; step daughter, Michelle Chauncey of Valdosta; sisters, Ruby Edwards of Asheville, North Carolina, Harriett Sutton of Valdosta, Linda Faye Gilliam (Michael) of Valdosta, Darlene Keeling (Charles) of Quitman; brother, Marvin Dixon (Angela) of Valdosta; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Nettie Carolyn Dixon, sister, Frances Parker, brothers, Leroy Dixon, Gerald Harvey Dixon and Woodrow Dixon; brothers-in-law, Earl Edwards & Kenneth Edward Sutton.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Carlton Allen will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
