Thomas E. Shue

Thomas E. Shue, 91, of Valdosta died Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Langdale Hospice House. He was born in Hillsborough, North Carolina on May 8, 1917 to the late James M. and Opie Belle Elkins Shue. Mr. Shue was a former Commissioner of Hillsborough, North Carolina. He moved from Adel, Georgia in 1957 to Maitland, Florida and was a retired manager of a Boat Company. Mr. Shue was a charter member of the Asbury United Methodist and treasurer of the Campbell Bible Class and the Y.E.S. Group. He was a charter member of the Maitland Civic Center, member of the AARP and helped form the Maitland National Bank in buying their stock offering. He was a veteran of World War II, past member of the V. F. W., American Legion, Maitland Garden Club and director of Oakland Shores Civic Association. He loved to raise plants and give them to the United Methodist Women and Matiland Woman's Club each year for their rummage sales.

Survivors include two sisters in law, Juanita T. Powell of Valdosta and Carolyn Harris of Adel, five nieces and their spouses, Martha Coppage of Valdosta, Mary Frank and Joe Wingate of Quitman, Kay Powell, Pam and Joe Van Patton and Patrice Campbell all of Smyrna, GA., several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty years, Neva Tomlinson Shue.

Memorial services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, December 28, 2008 in the Magnolia Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1pm until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial of his cremains will be held at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery in Adel, Georgia. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Kitchen Fund @ Asbury United Methodist Church, 220 Horatio Ave., Maitland, FL.32751 or to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home, P. O.
