Thomas Rudolph Austin, 79, of Lake Park, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Lakeland Villas, in Lakeland, GA. He was born in Milledgeville, GA on August 13, 1945, to the late James and Lynnette Austin. Tom graduated from the University of Georgia in 1968, and he had many fond memories of his time in Athens, especially watching the Bulldogs play. His favorite hobby through the years has been Georgia football, and he spent many hours researching all the details about the team.
He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for a number of years. He loved his Lord Jesus Christ and his church family, and he attended faithfully until his health failed.
Tom is survived by his wife Cheryl Austin of Lake Park; daughter and son-in-law Marlie and Bill Jessup of Ellijay, GA; daughter and son-in-law Jessica and Jason Nelson of Perry, GA; granddaughters Baleigh and Morgan Drummond of Ellijay GA; a niece Micky Pounds of St. Augustine, FL; his step-children Heather and Brock Yommer and Jacob and Lisa Eckwahl all of Valdosta; his step-grandchildren Parker Trouille and Rebecca Cannington, Gage Eckwahl, Stone and Autumn Eckwahl all of Lake Park, Addison Yommer of Gainesville, FL, and Jenna Yommer of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Marie and Billy, and also a son-in-law, Mike Drummond.
The family would like to thank the team at Lakeland Villa for taking such good care of him for the last 13 months; and for special nurse Lisa Suttles, who he referred to as “Budyette”.
His family is so thankful that he is now completely healed and reunited with his loved ones, but especially that he has met Jesus face to face!
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Morningside Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
