Talmadge Hendley

March 31, 1922 — September 21, 2008

Talmadge Hendley, 86, of Valdosta, died Sunday, September 21, 2008, around 10 p.m. at Tift Medical Center Nursing Home. He was born in Berrien County to Elizabeth and Reverend Archie Hilton Hendley on March 31, 1922. After graduating from High School, he completed his training class with highest honors and served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Richmond as Gunner Mate in charge of Armory. Following WWII Mr. Hendley farmed in Atkinson County until the early 1950's when he moved to Valdosta to work with Owens Illinois Pulp Mill. He was a faithful member and usher at Northside Baptist Church. Mr. Hendley enjoyed his work, fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years, Lou Daniel Hendley and his second wife of 23 years, Robbie Futch Hendley.

Survivors are his son and daughter in law, Danny and Susan Hendley of Nashville, step daughter and step son in law, Judy and Bennie Butler of Albany, step son and step daughter in law, Rusty and Renee Futch of Lake Park, grandchildren, Kristi and David Spring of Nashville, Tennessee, Donna and Frank Casey of Warner Robbins, Ty and Debbie Hendley of Nashville, Kim of St. Augustine, Florida; great grandchildren, Tyler Spring and Isaac Spring, Dalton Smith, Shelby Smith, Chip Coshow; brother, Clifton Hendley of Nashville, sisters, Mary Griner of Nashville, Reva Ruslin of Douglas, Lona Faye Moseley and Vern Bower of Dallas. Mr. Hendley was also preceded in death by a son, Travis T. Hendley, a sister, Idell Dunn, and brothers, Breman, Julian and Hilton Hendley.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Bob Willis will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens.
