Sylvia Levin, 92, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at her residence after a period of declining health. Mrs. Levin was born in Chicago on September 9, 1920 to the late Louis and Bertha Druck. She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Roosevelt High School then in the late 1930's, she came on a family trip to Valdosta. On this trip she met her future husband Charles, and they were married in 1940. She and her husband operated A. Levin and Son Store in Jasper, FL for approximately 50 years. Mrs. Levin was a member of the Jasper Women's club and a member of Temple Israel in Valdosta, where she was very involved in the Sisterhood and operated the gift shop. A wonderful cook and baker, Mrs. Levin was also very active with and supportive of her two daughters.
Survivors include her two daughters and sons in law, Susan & Stephen Turner of Tallahassee, FL, and Brenda & Hal Kaplan of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren and their spouses, Shawn Turner & Sally Lambert of Los Angeles, CA, Serrin Turner & Sharon Street of New York, NY, Marisa Turner & Jason Harkavy of Livingston, NJ, Brad Kaplan of Orlando, Amy & Rob Bryant of Atlanta, and Mark Kaplan of Atlanta. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Levin is preceded in death by her husband Charles Levin and a brother and sister.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rabbi Moshe Elbaz will officiate.
