Sylvia DeLoach Wright, 53, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at her residence. Born in Dooly County on November 6, 1960, she was the daughter of Connie Woodruff DeLoach and the late Lamar Edmond DeLoach. Sylvia graduated from Valdosta State University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art where she was a member of Sigma Alpha Chi Honor Society. She was an artist, a member of the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts and Southern Artists League. Sylvia had taught Art at Appling County High School in Baxley and returned home to become a graphic artist with the Valdosta Daily Times. She was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church.
Survivors are her husband, Jess K. Wright of Valdosta; her son, Will A. Wright of Athens; her mother, Connie DeLoach of Valdosta; nephew, Joseph Edmond DeLoach of Milledgeville; her dog, Waldo; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father and her brother, David Edmond DeLoach.
Services for Mrs. Wright will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend V.L. Daughtery and Reverend John Carroll will officiate. A committal will be held at the graveside at Walnut Cemetery on Cherry Street in Unadilla on Friday at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Turner Center for the Arts, 527 N Patterson St, Valdosta, GA 31601 or to B.A.R.C.
