SYBIL LOUISE GRIFFIN PASSMORE, 83, of Hahira died Saturday, August 20, 2005 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on May 27, 1922 in Nashville to the late Edgar L. and Annie Bulloch Griffin and had lived in Hahira for many years. She completed high school in Nashville and attended Georgia State Women’s College, now Valdosta State University where she was a member of the Glee Club and the Serenaders. Mrs. Passmore worked for Dadant and Company Bee Supplies for forty two years and managed their branch office in Hahira. She was a member of the Georgia Beekeepers Association and the American Federation of Beekeepers, and served for a number of years as treasurer of the Georgia Beekeepers Association. Mrs. Passmore was named Georgia State Beekeeper of the Year in 1979 for her contributions to beekeeping. She was a member of the Hahira United Methodist Church where she served as organist and choir director for over thirty years. She had been a member of the Hahira Honeybee Festival Committee since its inception.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Robert LaRon and Melissa Passmore of Oklahoma City, OK., two daughters and sons in law, Ellice and Philips Martin of Homerville, Peggy and Terry Wilkes of Valdosta, stepson, Jerry Passmore and his wife, Dorothy of Lake Park, her grandchildren, Ron Passmore, Jr. and wife, Brandy of Nashville, LeAnne Cooper and husband, Andy of Griffin, Amanda Passmore of Hahira, Brett Martin and wife, Traycee of Valdosta, Clare Roath and husband, Daniel of Atlanta, Richard Wilkes and wife, Tessa of Valdosta, Barrett Wilkes of Valdosta, stepgrandchildren, Tina Blades and husband, Eric of Lake Park, Amber Gordon and husband, Scott of Quitman, Kim English of Oklahoma City, OK., John Herring of Adel, Mandy Simpson of Valdosta, great grandchildren, Matthew and Kayla Passmore, Carlie Passmore, Sam and Mary Clare Martin, John Roath, step great grandchildren, April, Kaitlynn, Jackson and Emily Passmore, Logan Blades, Dylan, Garrett and Trevor English and Halee Simpson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Alexander Passmore of Hahira, a sister, Dorris Frost of Nashville, and a step grandson, Ray Passmore of Valdosta.
Funeral services will be held at 4pm, Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at the Hahira United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Morgan, Rev. Lynn Hurley and Rev. John McGowan officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
