Susie Turner Dowling

April 17, 1912 — May 17, 2008

Susie Turner Dowling, 96, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, May 17, 2008 following a short illness. Born in Lowndes County to the late Jimmy Walter & Amanda Dukes Turner, she was a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Dowling worked at the Strickland Cotton Mill in Remerton as a spinner and helped her husband at their business, Dowling's Garage on Baytree Road with bookkeeping. She was a member of Forrest Park Church of Christ. Mrs. Dowling had an unending love for gardening and was very skilled at growing flowers. She kept her yard and gardens on Baytree Road beautiful as long as she was able. She also loved to serve and care for others.

Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Jack C. & Maggie Dowling of Lowndes County, and Richard (Rudy) & Peggy Dowling of Valdosta; and a daughter and son in law, Sylvia D. & Bill Higgins of Valdosta. Also surviving are a sister Louise Johnson of Valdosta; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband James C. (Cat) Dowling.

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Dowling at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Mr. Bill Ward and Mr. Jason Roberts will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia.
