Susan Elise Porter

Susan Elise Porter, 60, of Valdosta, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

She was born March 10, 1954 in Jasper, Florida, and in the early 1970's she served in the Women's Army Corps. For many years she was a Manager at the Dollar General at Castle Park, and later Manager of Huddle House on St. Augustine Road. She was a member of Swilley Hill Church of God, was very outgoing and if she could help someone, she would. She loved her family, treasured her grandkids, loved flowers, especially sunflowers, and was an avid cook.

Mrs. Porter is survived by her husband of thirty-nine years, Walter Porter; two sons, Jamie Porter, and Jason Porter and wife Hope; four grandchildren, Lindsey, Jayden, Jacob and Joseph, all of Valdosta; sisters, Pat Carlo; special nieces and nephew, Rhonda Terry, Haley Ethridge and Patrick Carlo, all of Valdosta; sister, Robin Hill of Tampa, FL; brother, Robert Hill of Hudson, MA; sisters-in-law, Donna Nolan and husband David of Valdosta, and Sharon Courson and husband Randy of Jesup; brothers-in-law, Weyman Porter and wife Molly of Valdosta, Ken Porter and wife Maria of Marietta, Don Porter and wife Gina of Ray City, and Aaron Porter and wife Deulza of Jesup; many additional nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Donna Martin of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rossie Lee McDonald and Marguerite Elise Benway Hill; a special "sister", Mary Ann Austin; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, whom she was a caregiver to during their final years, Wendell and Doris Porter.

Susan's family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Light and the staff at U.S. Renal Care for the wonderful care provided to her over the years.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Porter will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. William Cotterill and Pastor Wayne Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. The Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
