Stuart Lindsay Mason, Jr.

Stuart Lindsay Mason, Jr., 79, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died on Friday, January 8, 2010, at Langdale Hospice House after a long illness. Born in Valdosta on December 17, 1930, he was the son of the late S.L. Mason, Sr. and Ethel Mildred Holmes Mason. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic. Mr. Mason taught for 32 years in the Valdosta School System and was very beloved by generations of students for his sense of humor and engaging style of teaching. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He loved to travel with his family.

Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Muriel Mason of Valdosta, daughters and sons in law, Gillie and Michael Dunagan of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Leslie and Ron Ridley of Lake Park; son and daughter in law, Stuart and Wanda Mason, III of Wake Forest, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jennifer (Rico) Chmielewski of Lake Park, Emily Murray of Nashville, Georgia, Stuart Lindsay Mason IV of Wake Forest, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Spencer Chmielewski and Briggs Chmielewski of Lake Park.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2010, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Father Peter Ingeman will officiate. Interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the mausoleum from 3 until service time on Sunday.
