Stuart Cory Sanders, 93, of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at the Langdale Hospice House after an extended illness.
He was born November 6, 1917 in East Orange, NJ, a son of the late Louis M. and Gertrude Lois Smith Sanders. He graduated from East Orange High School and attended West Point Prepatory School. During World War II he served in the United States Army Infantry in the European Theatre. Mr. Sanders was employed as an Accountant and Office Manager for Coca-Cola in Rutland, VT, and later as an Accountant at Brandon Training School in Brandon, VT. Mr. Sanders and his wife, Barbara, moved to Valdosta in 2007 from Leesburg, FL.
He was a member of the Brandon Congregational Church, Brandon, VT, and an affiliate member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Valdosta. Mr. Sanders was a member of the St. Paul's Masonic Lodge #25, Brandon, VT, the Eastern Star, American Legion and V.F.W. He was an avid model train enthusiast, and enjoyed playing golf and bowling.
In addition to his wife, Barbara Sanders of Valdosta, he is survived by four children, Kathryn Prats of Valdosta, Kerry and wife Colette Sanders of Chapel Hill, NC, Peter Sanders of Norfolk, VA, and Paula and husband Peter Flannery of Sheboygan, WI; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jared Sanders; a brother, Louis M. Sanders, Jr.; and a sister, Katherine Culbert.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Sanders will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Valdosta, with Rev. Richard C. Hart officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center, VT. The family will receive friends following the services at the church.
