Steven Louis Strange, 75 years old, died on February 21, 2025, at his home of over 40 years in Valdosta, GA. Mr. Strange was surrounded by his family as he moved from his earthly life to his heavenly reward. His strong will to live and love for his family was evident in his final days.
Mr. Strange was born on August 10, 1949, in Evansville, Indiana, and grew up in both Miami and Hollywood, FL.
Mr. Strange was drafted by the United States Army in 1969. After training at Fort Gordon and Fort Benning, he was sent to Long Bihn as part of an engineering division. It was during this time that he became pen pals with Beverly Yarber. They met for the first time face to face when Mr. Strange was returned from Vietnam in January of 1971. Six weeks later they were married in Detroit, Michigan. Married for 53 years, Steve and Beverly raised their 2 daughters, Amy and Audrey, in Hollywood, Florida, Scottsboro, Alabama, and finally Valdosta.
For the past 43 years, Mr. Strange was a member of the Dasher Church of Christ, serving as a Deacon for many years. Mr. Strange was an IBEW journeyman electrician, working shutdowns in power and nuclear plants across the country. After working on the road for many years, Mr. Strange worked at Trus Joist in Valdosta and the Target Distribution Center in Lake City.
Mr. Strange was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Marilyn Beal Strange, his brother Scott Strange, and sister-in-law Linda Schwieger.
Mr. Strange is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly, 2 daughters: Amy and Danny Cozart of Valdosta, GA; Audrey and Donald Dawkins of Valdosta, GA, and his four granddaughters who he loved dearly, even when he got their names mixed-up: Abby, Amelia, Anna, and Avie, and his spoiled rotten Shih Tzu, Oliver.
