Steven Perry Coody, 61, of Valdosta died on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on December 1, 1953 in Valdosta and has been a lifelong resident here. He was employed with Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) for 41 years and was an active member of Redland Baptist Church. Steve liked to hunt and fish but most of all he loved his family. His grandchildren were his world and he loved spending time with them. Steve was a great neighbor and friend and loved to share his faith with all he came in contact with. He made sure everyone knew he would see them again in Heaven. Steve was well respected by all who knew him from the smallest child to the oldest adult. He will be missed by his family and the entire community.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Tricia Coody of Valdosta; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori Coody Reaves and Reuben Reaves of Hahira; a son, Steven Michael Coody of Valdosta; seven grandchildren, Emma and Emelia Gregory, James Paul Reaves and Marlaina Reaves all of Hahira, Ava Grace Coody, Ashton Coody and Jack Coody all of Valdosta; his mother, Gladys Coody, a sister, Jan Scaggs, a brother, Ray Coody all of Valdosta; mother-in-law, Alma Jean Wheeler Sumner and her husband The Reverend Billy Sumner of Tifton; numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, L.T. Coody and a brother, Mike Coody.
Services for Steven Perry Coody will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Redland Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Watkins and Rev. Tom Kelley officiating. The burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
