Steve Parrish, 64, of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Langdale Hospice House.
He was born July 7, 1951, in Merced, California, a son of Dale and Eileen Parrish. Being raised in a military family he moved often to California, Arizona, Newfoundland, Florida, and Georgia. He studied at VSC but earned his Physician Assistant licenses, and became one of the first P.A.s in the state working in Ear, Nose and Throat. He was also a member of the Georgia Association of Physicians Assistants. For forty years, Steve worked at Ear, Nose, Throat & Allergy Associates of South Georgia in Valdosta. Steve was involved with Sierra Nevada Club that led him to adventures of hiking and climbing mountains. He used those skills to help bring down airplane wreckage from mountain sides. He traveled to Nepal on one of his biggest life changing adventures that later brought him to meeting a lifelong friend from Nepal. Steve enjoyed hiking, photography, creative writing, traveling, and was a skilled coffee maker. Steve had a hobby with his dad in flying gas model airplanes.
Steve became a member of New Covenant Church in 1997, where he was a Home Church Pastor and the Men's Ministry Leader. He led a mission trip to Venezuela.
He is survived by his wife, Sandi Parrish of Valdosta; a daughter and son-in-law, Alexandra and Juan Diego Arzayus of Valdosta; grandson, Ezekiel Arzayus of Valdosta; brother, Mike Parrish and partner Sue Schell of Bellevue, WA; half-brother, Larry Parrish and wife Mary of Falls City, NE; extended family, Matt Christian of Valdosta, and Kyle Christian of Tucker; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015, at New Covenant Church, with Elder Mike Williams and Elder Gerald Spell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Entombment will take place privately at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
