Stephen Thomas Orr, (Oreskovic) 94 years old, of Valdosta, Georgia, died on
Saturday, June 23, 2007, after a period of declining health. He was the oldest son of Martin and Mary Oreskovic; born in Menominee Falls, Wisconsin. His wife, Verna Irene Orr preceded him in death in 1999. Affectionately known as Gramps by his family and friends, Mr. Orr had lived in Valdosta since his retirement. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC’s) serving at Camp McCoy, Coon Valley, Wisconsin, and Camp West Salem, Wisconsin. Mr. Orr received decorations for his service in the United States Army during WWII having served in the Armored Tank Division in Italy. He was a member of the American Legion-Post 13, Georgia and worked with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America for many years as his sons and grandsons grew up.
Survivors are his children, two sons and a daughter in law, David Orr of San Francisco, California, Robert and Dene of Black Mountain, North Carolina, daughter and son in law, Susan and Ray Ring of Valdosta; grandsons, Eldridge and Shirl Closson of Woodbridge, Virginia, Mark and Marsha Closson of Summerville, South Carolina; four great grandchildren, Susannah and Caroline Closson of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Colleen and Samuel Closson of Summerville, South Carolina. Survivors also include four sisters and one brother, Mary Beffel and Josephine Hatala of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sandra Oreskovic of Alexandria, Virginia, Frank Oreskovic of Saukville, Wisconsin, Ann Hoops of Midland, Michigan, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers, Johnny Orr, Victoria LeGault, Fred Orr and Alexander (Dutch) Orr.
A memorial and celebration of the life of Stephen Thomas Orr will take place on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 4 p.m. in the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until service time. Pastor Richard Pieplow of Messiah Lutheran Church will officiate during the memorial service.
