Stella Gwen Lewis

Stella Gwen Lewis, 79, of Valdosta, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Langdale Hospice House.

She was born December 24, 1934, in Midville. Mrs. Lewis retired from South Georgia Medical Center after working as a Nurse in the O.R. for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a member of the Choir. A loving wife, mother and Mimi, she greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Lewis enjoyed fishing, golfing, finding shark's teeth at the beach, staying at Fernandina Beach, gardening and her dogs; but most of all, she enjoyed doing for others. She was Past President of her Sunday School Class at church and Past President of the Ladies Golf Association at Stone Creek.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Wallace A. Lewis of Valdosta; two daughters, Lynn Lewis Trumm (Keith) of Hahira, and LuAnne Lewis Jordan of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Dr. Zackary Bentley (Rebekah) of Statesboro, Jesse Bentley of Savannah, Kathryn Bentley of Valdosta, and Spencer Jordan of Statesboro; one great-granddaughter, Bella Bentley of Jackson, MS; two sisters-in-law, Anne Jackson of Folkston, and Ethel Gould of Tallahassee; and her life long friend, Jo Henderson of Santa Rosa, FL. She was preceded in death by her father, Taft Walea; her mother, Ruth Walea Engram; and her step-father, Ralph W. Engram.

The family extends their deep gratitude to the dedicated staff at Langdale Hospice House for the wonderful care and support given to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis.

The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. Interment will follow at 5:00 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery, Waycross. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.
