Staten Claude Hughes

Staten Claude Hughes, 73, of Valdosta, died on Friday, March 17, 2006, at his home after a short illness. Born in Bradenton, Florida, on August 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Carl C. and Norma Corbett Hughes. Retired from the U.S. Air Force, he was a member of the American Legion Post 13, and Forrest Street Church of God. Mr. Hughes was an avid sportsman and he loved to hunt. <br><br>Survivors are his wife, Evelyn Swilley Hughes of Valdosta, sons, David C. and Deborah Hughes of Rutledge, Jamie L. and Lisa Hughes of Edgewater, Florida, daughters, Heather H. and Talsey McCullough of Ft. Bliss, El Paso, Texas, Stephanie J. Hughes of Iraq, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, brothers and sisters in law, Harold and Shirley Hughes, LaVaughn and Nell Hughes, Lynn and Sandra Hughes all of Lake Park. Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his first wife, Lora Gene Hughes, and a son, Larry L. Hughes. <br><br>Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, March 20, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Forrest Street Church of God. Reverend Wayne Hughes, Reverend David C. Hughes and A. T. Lowery will officiate. Mr. Hughes will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Patterson Street in Valdosta. Military Honors and burial will be at Carter Cemetery.
