Stanley Zipperer

January 18, 1919 — November 26, 2010

Stanley Zipperer, 91, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died on Friday, November 26, 2010 in Adel. Mr. Zipperer was born on January 18, 1919, the son of the late Charlie and Lucy Roberts Zippperer. He graduated from Clyattville High School and attended ABAC before serving in the Pacific during WWII with the U.S. Army Military Police. After his time in the military he came home and began Dairy Farming, continuing for the next 48 years. Mr. Zipperer was active with the Georgia Farm Bureau, serving as President and was named Livestock Farmer of the Year in 1976. He also served on the Board of Directors for Goldkist. He actively served his church, Mt. Zion United Methodist and loved singing in the choir and also at home. He loved planting and growing things, he loved hunting and fishing and many other outside activities.

Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Hilda Cothron Zipperer of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Merita and Joe Humphrey of Rome, son, Stephen Zipperer of Valdosta, son and daughter in law, Ivey and Susan Zipperer of Valdosta, daughter and son in law, Varina and Emory Felts of Adel; grandchildren, Thomas (Katie) Humphrey, Micah Humphrey, Cherilyn (Tim) Selman all of Rome, Cecelia Zipperer of Naylor, Stacie Zipperer of Hahira, Stanley Zipperer, III of Valdosta, Jacob Felts and Justin Felts of Adel; great grandchildren, Camden and Isabella Humphrey of Rome, Emma Rose Selman of Rome; brother and sister in law, Foster and Hazel Zipperer, a sister, Delphia Peace; and sisters in law, Inez Zipperer and Elizabeth Cothron, both of Valdosta and Jackie Cothron of Marion, NC. He was preceded in death by a son, Russell Zipperer, brothers, Aubrey Zipperer, Lawrence Zipperer, Leonard Zipperer, sisters, Viva Jones, Blanche Kelly, Aleph Breland, Floride Miller and Lucy Vivian Zipperer.


Funeral services are schedule for Sunday, November 28, 2010, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. John McGowan will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery Fund, 4514 Mt.
