Shirley Rosemarie Hughes Helton

Shirley Rosemarie Hughes Helton, 84, of Valdosta died Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Tift Regional Hospital in Tifton, GA. She was born in Maui, Hawaii on March 24, 1935 to the late Francisco Souza and Mary Abri Souza. Mrs. Helton was a homemaker and a member of Azalea City Church of God. She enjoyed crocheting, going to yard sales and spending time with friends and family.
Mrs. Helton is survived by her children, Kenneth Eugene Hughes, Jr. (Deborah) of Valdosta, Rosslyn Carter (James) of Lake Park, Debra Jean Mercer (Charles) and Jenelda Marie Taylor (Jack) all of Valdosta, grandchildren, Angela Brown, Allen Smith, Dewayne Hughes, Bryan Hughes, Stephanie Perez, Renee Futch, Christopher Speldrick, James Carter II, Donnie Sirmans, Anetra Moore, Erica Smelser, Billy Taylor, Randy Hughes and Brandon Hughes, numerous great grandchildren and sister, Loretta Castro. She is predeceased by her parents, two daughters, Valentine Shirley Brown and Sherrie Jean Hughes, eight brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 24, 2020 at three p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
