Shirley Forrest Trantham

Shirley Forrest Trantham, 78, of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Lakehaven Nursing Home after a prolonged illness.

She was born April 30, 1935 in Valdosta, a daughter of the late Henry C. Forrest, Sr. and the late Verna Willis Forrest. She graduated from Valdosta High School with the Class of 1953, and was employed with GMAC for thirty years. Ms .Trantham was a member of Lee Street Baptist Church and later Azalea City Baptist Church (Crossroads). She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, and was a Crimson Tide fan and an avid NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr.

She is survived by a daughter, Dawn Marie Trantham and her partner April McKaig of Gainesville, GA; a son, Dane Max Trantham and KC Bellflower of Valdosta; their father, Dewell Max Trantham of Valdosta; three grandchildren, Nate' Danielle Trantham and Rick Williams, Jason Dane Trantham and Ronald Myers, and Justin Max Trantham and Brooke Taylor, all of Valdosta; three great-grandchildren, Giselle Amari Williams, Madison Jade Williams and Zoey Marie Williams; two sisters, Barbara Forrest Largent of Ellijay, and Betty Bullard Zeigler of Decatur; a sister-in-law, Lou Ethelle Forrest of Grayson; and extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her precious brother, Henry C. Forrest, Jr.; and two brother-in-laws, James Zeigler and William Largent.

A Graveside Service for Ms. Trantham will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta.
