Shirley Cooper Dame

October 14, 1936 — January 15, 2017

Shirley Cooper Dame, 80, lifelong resident of Valdosta, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2017. Born in Brooks County, Georgia, on October 14, 1936, she was the daughter of the late C. I. and Alice Crosby Cooper. She moved to Valdosta at an early age and in 1953 she met and began dating William Dame. Shirley and William were married in 1954 and soon began their family. Shirley worked for Hall's Childrens Shop for many years. In the mid 1970's she began a career as a rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal service, retiring in 1994. Currently she was serving as a bailiff in the Superior Court of Lowndes County. Shirley was devoted to her family and loved to cook and organize family gatherings. A longtime faithful member of Central Church of Christ she loved the children and young people of the church.
Survivors are her husband of 62 years, William B. Dame of Valdosta; son, Mike Dame of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Michele and Rob Weiland of Phoenix, Arizona; son and daughter in law, Tim and Nan Dame of Valdosta; grandchildren, Marcus (Brandie) Dame of Canton, Melanie Dame of Valdosta, Rob Weiland III of Phoenix, Arizona, Katherine (Rick) Coleman of Atlanta, Benjamin Dame, Joseph Dame, David Dame, Victoria Dame of Valdosta; great grandchildren, Bayleigh Dame of Canton; sister, Anna Wilson of Tallahassee; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mr. Bryan Jarvis and Mr. John Klimko will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. In order to carry on Mrs. Dame's legacy, the family asks that we each do a kind act of service for others in her name.
