Shirley Ann Lightsey, 76, of Valdosta died at her residence on Saturday, September 29, 2012 following a lengthy illness. She was born on November 11, 1935 in Adel to the late Sims Griffin and Mozelle Griffin Ragan and has been a resident of this area her whole life. She retired after 26 years of service as a bailiff with the Lowndes County Court System. She was an avid bingo player and loved attending auctions. Mrs. Lightsey was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Connie Lightsey of Barney, Freddy and Belinda Lightsey, Rickey Lightsey and Gary Lightsey all of Valdosta; six grandsons and spouses, Randy and Brandi Lightsey of Hahira, Brian and Nicole Lightsey of Valdosta, Ray Lightsey and Kathy Whalley of Jacksonville, Florida, Dave Lightsey of Athens, Georgia, and Brett and Jessica Maddocks of Columbus, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Madison Lightsey, Morgan Lightsey, Haylee Lightsey, Aubrey Lightsey, Cayden Lightsey, and Elijah Maddocks; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Captain Caulie Lee Lightsey, Jr.; two brothers, Wendell Griffin and J.T. Griffin and a sister, Myrtle O'Quinn.
Services for Shirley Ann Lightsey will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Brett Maddocks officiating. The burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery in Naylor. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
