Seward Edwin (Ed) Herring, 75, of Hahira died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at his home. He was born in Alma, Georgia on September 15, 1933 to the late Joseph S. and Addie Lee Stewart Herring and had lived in this area for many years and lived in Panama City Beach, Florida from 1998 until returning to this area last year. Mr. Herring was the owner of Lowndes Electric Supply and veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Bemiss Road Baptist Church. Mr. Herring enjoyed playing golf, fishing, enjoyed life and his grandchildren. He enjoyed meeting people and was a very giving and generous man. Mr. Herring was a member of the Valdosta Country Club.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Kevin and Tricia Herring of Hahira, four grandsons, Jarrod Herring, Joshua Herring, Huntley Herring and Trey Herring, his brother and sister in law, Carl and Joan Herring of Jacksonville, Fla, a friend who was like a son, Jim and Rebecca Hendricks of Hahira, close friends, Billy and Bunny Spell of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tootsie Mae Herring, a son, Gregory Edwin Herring, a brother, Glenn Herring and sisters, Nell Taylor, Almetta Johnson, Cleo Lee and Lawsie Abercrombie.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, June 7, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial to follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Austin DeLoach and Mr. Rick Setser will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
