Mrs. Serena Swilley, 80, of Valdosta passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on April 22, 1941 at home in Ochlocknee, Thomas County, GA to the late Albert and Montine Benton. Mrs. Swilley was a homemaker and a member of the Abundant Life Church of God. She loved to cook, garden, sew, crochet and spend time with her family. She enjoyed reading her bible and visiting on the phone with others. Mrs. Swilley was a consistent encourager to family, community and church family. She prayed for others daily. Fishing and watching the Atlanta Braves were things she enjoyed doing.
She is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, Albert Swilley of Valdosta. They were married on December 10, 1960. They raised and loved as a daughter Peggy Benton of Morven, her husband is Larry. Their children and spouses are daughters and sons in law, Tish and Bobby Ibarra of Lake Park, Andrea and Herb Hopper of Adel, Lori and Jim Bennett of Valdosta, son and daughter in law, Al and Lori Swilley of Valdosta, ten grandchildren, Chelsea Ibarra, Chase Ibarra, Alexandrea Hopper, Joseph Hopper, Israel Hopper, Austin Bennett, Sam Bennett, Cole Bennett, Serena Swilley and Kathryn Swilley, sister, Patricia Lee and brother and sister in law, Larry and Peggy Benton and sister in law, Jean Benton. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Edward Benton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 31, 2021 at eleven a. m. at the Abundant Life Church of God with Reverend Wayne Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Swilley Hill Cemetery.
