Sarah Speed Mikovitz, 86, of Valdosta and formerly of Opelousas, Louisiana, died on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Fellowship Home after a short illness. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, on November 13, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Sarah Curry Speed and John Crews Speed, Sr. Mrs. Mikovitz was a homemaker, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, was a member of the AARP and the Air Force Sergeants Association Auxiliary. She was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Survivors are her children, Sandra Mikovitz Bohon, Mike Mikovitz, Jr. and Linda of Valdosta, Donald Crews Mikovitz and Leephether of Sandhill; grandchildren, Jennifer Colleen Mikovitz of Hampton, Virginia, John Peter Mikovitz and Patricia of Charlotte, North Carolina, Christopher Neil Mikovitz and Noelle, Heather Mikovitz Walker and Don of Warner Robins; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Mike Mikovitz, a son in law, Jerome Bohon, a brother and sister in law, John Jr. & Gloria Speed and a great grandson, Gabriel Mikovitz.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 21, 2012 at 12:10 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Dan O'Connell officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Johns Building Fund or to Hospice of South Georgia. www.mclanecares.com.
