Sarah L. Smithie, 59, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at South Georgia Medical Center.

She was born June 13, 1952 in Homerville, a daughter of the late James Elvin and Sally Ward Register. Sarah was a member of the Valdosta Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her husband, James Smithie of Valdosta; two daughters, Missy Hand Cox of Ray City, and Lucretia and husband Timothy Corbitt of Valdosta; two grandchildren, T.J. and Trenton Corbitt; brothers and sisters, Pat Nathey of Ray City, Betty and husband Felton Johnson of Lakeland, Nolan Register of Valdosta, Dewey and wife Lisa Register of Clyattville, Odessa Payne of Valdosta, Elaine and husband Edward Guest of Valdosta, and Roy Register of Clyattville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Register.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Smithie will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2011, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Barden officiating. Interment will follow at North Cemtery, DuPont. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
