SARA STUDSTILL SMITH, 86, of Lake Park, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital, Tallahassee, FL, after a short illness. She was born on December 12, 1922 in Valdosta, the daughter of the late Jonathan and Sallie Hutchinson Studstill.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Christian Home Builders Sunday School class. She enjoyed her dear friends in her sewing group and in her coffee club, which she was a member of for over 50 years. She was a great mother, an outstanding cook, and was a warm and welcoming hostess who also enjoyed camping with her friends.
She is survived by two sons, Dan Smith and wife Betty Jean Rodgers Smith of Nahunta, and Randy Smith and wife Norma Knuth Smith of Valdosta; one daughter, Kathy S. Green and husband Rick Green of Hahira; five grandchildren, Stacy Evans and husband Rob of Valdosta, Jason Green of Duluth, Dr. Jonathan Smith and wife Betsy of Rochester, NY, Jeanie Altman and husband Tracy of Nahunta, and Ashley Smith of Nahunta/Augusta; seven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Dian Smith Brewton and husband Sam of Brevard, NC; two close nieces, Elaine Studstill Hardy and husband Herbert of Greenville, SC, and Kay Studstill McLeod and husband Tim of Valdosta; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including Ann Dasher and husband Raymond of Lake Park. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Earl Daniel Smith on March 29, 2009; and two brothers, Randall Studstill and James Studstill.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. John McGowan officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
