Sara (Jackie) Hendricks

SARA "JACKIE" HENDRICKS, 73, of Valdosta, passed this life on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, after a brief illness, at South Georgia Medical Center.

Jackie was born in Greenville, SC, a daughter of the late Hamilton "Ham" and Lucille Wilson Mewborne, and migrated to Birmingham, AL, before finally settling in Valdosta in 1980. She and her husband, Howard, owned and operated Hendricks Contracting Inc. for many years.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and she was a friend to all. She enjoyed life to the fullest, entertaining and traveling with friends. She had been a member of the Lions Club, a long time member of Beta Sigma Phi Soriety, and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Howard Hendricks of Valdosta; her children, Shannon Jenkins (Tom) of Valdosta, Kerry Hudson (Bob) of Valdosta, Lajeana Chitty (Dean) of Birmingham, AL, Malin Selman (Bobby) of Birmingham, AL, Van Hendricks (Kim) of Valdosta, Erin Russell (Charlie) of Birmingham, AL; and was known a "Mimi" to her 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, James H. (Jim) Mewborne of Gainesville, and two best friends, Ruth McDougal (Tom) of Birmingham, AL, and Sylvia Edwards (Charlie) of Valdosta.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 pm Friday, September 5, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Don Vollenweider officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pearlman Cancer Center at South Georgia Medical Center or to the American Cancer Society.
