“How lucky I am to have had something in my life that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
Sandy Guess Sapp, 63, of Valdosta, passed away peacefully at her home on October 22, 2020, surrounded by her family. This chapter in Sandy’s life is written, but her story will live on in the lives of her family and friends. Sandy loved people, all people and in return, she was loved.
Her family knew that she was their biggest fan. She loved with her whole heart, never holding back, and she taught us to love each other unconditionally. Sandy would want us all to remember the good times we’ve shared, those stories we tell over and over, and even those we don’t tell. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, mother-in-love, Grandma and “Mema”, aunt, and friend. We will forever miss her smile and infectious laughter.
Sandy was born in Hahira, Georgia on December 25, 1956, to Edward Elisha “Po Ed” Guess and Florene Forte Guess. She was a member of the Forrest Park Church of Christ. Sandy was employed for many years as a Phlebotomist at South Georgia Medical Center. She was loved and respected by her co-workers and was often requested by patients not only for her skill, but for the compassion shown to those in her care. She continued her work in the medical field after leaving SGMC, working with Dr. Thomas and later, Dr. Courson. She worked in the original Fish Net Restaurant built and co-owned by “Po Ed” and later joined the family business at Po Ed’s Seafood Restaurant where they continued the tradition of faith, family, friends, and fellowship that sustained their business and their family for 24 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Michael E. “Mike” Sapp, her devoted family of two sons and daughter-in-law, Scotty and Lauren Sapp of Brunswick, Georgia, and Todd Sapp of Valdosta, her Mother, Florene Forte Guess, her three siblings, Tina Harrell (Charlie), Scott Guess (Ann), and Lori Belote (Chip), her mother/father-in law, Dallas and Barbara Sapp, and her sister-in-law, Pam Sapp. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Layla Sapp, Lilly Sapp, Skylie Sapp, and Brody Sapp. She also leaves very special nieces and nephews who know that “Aunt Sandy” will always love them, Ryan Thursby (Gina), Eli Harrell, Devlin Belote (Nicole), Morgan Sistrunk, and Dylan Everette (Brittany). She also had a bunch of precious aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death, by her Daddy, Edward Elisha “Po Ed” Guess.
