Sandra L. Ertlschweiger, known for her unwavering love as a wife, grandmother, and mother, peacefully departed this world on May 3, 2024, at the Fellowship Home in Valdosta. Born on October 1, 1948, in Albany, Georgia, Sandra was the cherished child of the late George Wesley and Minnie Leigh (Griggs) Funderburke.
Sandra's journey was marked by a commitment to education and service. She graduated from Daugherty County High School in 1966 and later attained a master's degree from Georgia Southern University at the age of 21. Her passion for nurturing young minds led her to a distinguished 40-year career in education, starting in early education and culminating in administration at Valdosta Technical School.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Sandra found joy in travel, whether it was relaxing at the beach house or jet-setting to Rome for a weekend getaway. She dedicated much of her time to her church community at Park Ave., where her spirit of compassion and devotion shone brightly.
Above all else, Sandra treasured her roles as a devoted wife, mother and as a grandmother affectionately known as “Mimi”. She is survived by her loving husband, Lt. Col. Hap Ertlschweiger, her children: Dr. Justin Baker and wife Molly of Moultrie, GA, Marc Ertlschweiger and wife Erin of Marietta, GA, Martin Ertlschweiger and wife Jennifer of Atlanta, GA, Lindsey Baker Childress and husband Zan of Hahira, GA, and Jennifer Ertlschweiger Cowfer of Burnet, TX.
Her legacy lives on through her seven grandsons: Grayson and Austin Baker of Moultrie, GA, Gunner and Asher Childress of Hahira, GA, Trenton Ertlschweiger of Marietta, GA, Miles Ertlschweiger of Atlanta, GA and Alex Vera of Burnet, TX, as well as her three granddaughters: Raegan Ertlschweiger of Marietta, GA, Lena Ertlschweiger of Atlanta, GA, and Josie Beasley of Burnet, TX. Sandra is also survived by her sister Glinda Funderburke of Atlanta, GA, and her brothers David Funderburke and wife Cindy of Warsaw, NC, Don Funderburke and wife Becky of Marietta, GA, and Danny Funderburke and wife Jan of Merritt Island, FL, along with numerous other extended family members and friends.
Sandra was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Ertlschweiger, and her parents.
Sandra L. Ertlschweiger's services will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Park Avenue Church. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-6 P.M. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
