Sandra Carter Hughes

Sandra Carter Hughes, 70, of Echols County passed away on Sunday, August 29th, 2021 at Tift Regional Hospital.
Sandra was born on April 4, 1951 in Valdosta, Georgia to Ray “BO” Carter and Lorene Culpepper Carter. She was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a 1969 Honor Graduate of Lowndes High School and a 1973 graduate of Lee University.

Before returning to Valdosta, Sandra worked as an Executive Secretary for hospital administration at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus, Georgia. She later worked for Bainbridge Memorial Hospital.

Upon returning to Valdosta, Sandra worked as an Executive Secretary for Georgia Power from January 2001 until she retired in May of 2017.

Sandra was a friend to everyone she met. She was always the most loving and caring person that shared her joy with everyone. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and friend.

Sandra is survived by her praying and devoted husband, Basil Hughes of Echols County, two loving sons Jonathan Jones (Vanessa) of Dahlonega, Georgia, and Benjamin Jones (Heather) of Cleveland, Georgia. A special son, Danny Hughes (Chrissy) of Hamilton County, Florida, and 2 daughters, Pamela Taylor (Travis) of Valdosta and Dana Bell (Jason) of Louisiana. Her loving grandchildren, who called her Granmama, Ryann, Finley, MaKayla, Daniel and Gabriella Jones, Tiffany, Troy and Tommy Taylor, Devenn, Dara, Donoven and Prince.

Also surviving are her mother, Lorene Carter, her sister, Glenda Conner and brother Richard Carter (Sherrie) of Lake Park, Georgia, Mother-in-law, Nell Hughes, two sisters in law, Yvonne Holt (Tom) and Cuba McLeod (Rusty) and a brother-in-law, Regan Hughes (Sopha), along with a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

On August 29th, 2021 Sandra was reunited in heaven with her father Ray “Bo” Carter, her stepfather, Harry “Tunce” Carter, father-in-law, LaVaughn Hughes, and two brother-in-laws, Jerry Conner and Avery Hughes.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 4th, 2021 at Lake Park Church of God. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 pm at Lake Park Church of God.
