Sallie Touchton Boyette

March 8, 1912 — June 9, 2009

Sallie Touchton Boyette died peacefully on June 9, 2009, at home with her family. She was born on March 8, 1912, the only daughter of the late Ott and Lila Cooper Touchton of the New Bethel Community in Lowndes County. Her husband was the late Isaac Harmon Boyette. They were married for sixty-seven years. Her daughter, Sallie Ann, and her son, Isaac Harmon, Jr. also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Boyette attended schools in Lowndes County, Norman Park and graduated from Hahira High School. She taught school at Redland and Shiloh until her marriage on July 14, 1935 to her husband, Harmon. It was to him, to her children and to her deep faith in God, she dedicated her life. Mrs. Boyette exemplified her Christian faith to everyone in her presence. She served her church through many avenues which included singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday School and serving as president of the Valdosta Association of the WMU. Mrs. Boyette also led a Bible study for many years at Ora Lee West Homes. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her three daughters, Gloria Boyette, Myra Boyette and Betty Boyette Gittinger and her husband, Fred; daughter-in-law, Wilda Boyette; grandchildren, John Price and his wife, Ruby, Melani Beavers and her husband, Stuart, Bridget Boyette, Britt Boyette Iannacone and her husband, Paul, Ike Boyette, III, Dr. Michael Harvey and his wife, Leslie, Renai Harvey Albaugh and her husband, John; her great-grandchildren, Ren, Bronte and Monroe Price, Isaac and Ellie Cate Beavers, Cullen, Vassar and Roan Harvey, John David, Sallie and Caleb Albaugh, John Paul and Michael Ellis Iannacone. She had many loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Boyette was preceded in death by her three brothers, Ellis Whitaker, John Henry and James Otis Touchton.

Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mac Weaver and Dr. Phil West officiating. Burial will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to First Baptist Church or Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts.
