Ruth S. Norris

Ruth S. Norris, 93, of Valdosta died on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born on July 29, 1920 in Berrien County to the late Abner and Sarah Hendley Sirmans and has been a resident of this local area all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Georgia. She had an outgoing personality and seemed to make friends with ease. She loved to work in her garden and was known for her knack of being able to grow the most beautiful daylilies and roses. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Patty Mayer of Valdosta; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Jean and Donald Kirkland of Nashville, Georgia; a son and daughter-in-law, Freddy and Sue Norris of Valdosta; four grandchildren and their spouses, Bobby, Jr. and Ruth Mayer of Tallahassee, Florida, David and Alisande Mayer of Valdosta, Brad and Melissa Kirkland of Nashville, Georgia, and John F. Norris of San Antonio, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Lucious and Ruby Sirmans of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Norris; three sisters and three brothers.

Services for Ruth S. Norris will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. J. W. Dukes III officiating. The interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
