Ruth Anne Montgomery Shafer

Ruth Anne Montgomery Shafer, 74, of Valdosta, graduated to heaven Monday, October 14, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Shafer was born October 24, 1945 in Farmington, New Mexico to the late Howard Jackson and Helen Elthea Johnson Montgomery. Ruth loved the Lord, her family and children; a naturally gifted teacher she taught children in Sunday school, home schooled her children and taught in private Christian schools. For 19 years she served the Lord as a missionary with The Mailbox Club managing their Discipleship Center ministry.
Family remaining include her faithful husband of 52 1/2 years, Darryl Clark Shafer, of Valdosta, GA; two sons, Darryl Clark Shafer II (Esther), of Pottstown, PA and Daniel Mark Shafer (Deborah), of Lorena, Texas; one daughter, Shawn Marie Shafer Ashley (Park), of Beavercreek, Ohio; one sister, Lois Jean Montgomery Hulshizer (Bill), of Chalfont, PA; one brother, Howard James Montgomery (Gerri, deceased), of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren, Katherine Rochelle Shafer Stever (Josh), Devon Clark Shafer (Celia), Nathanael Luke Shafer, Seth Hudson Shafer, Abigail Brooke Shafer, Isaac Roah Shafer, Celeste Marie Ashley, Zachary Park Ashley, Anwyn Ruth Ashley, Samuel Woodrow Ashley, Caleb Joseph Ashley, Noelle Helen Ashley, Justin Montgomery Ashley, Drew Christian Shafer, Logan Clark Shafer, Jackson Montgomery Shafer; great grandchildren, Roah Clark Shafer (Devon & Celia), and Edith Anne Stever (Kate & Josh), nieces and nephews.
Memorial celebration services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Grace Bible Church, 401 East Park Ave. Valdosta, with the family and Pastor Rick Hofmeister officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 2 p.m. until service time. The committal will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
