Russell Wayne Long, 57, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Langdale Hospice House after a short illness. Born in Quitman on January 3, 1954, he was the son of the late Russell Janon Long and Doris Merty Spell Long. Mr. Long and his family had moved to Tampa, Florida, living there briefly before returning to Lowndes County. He worked in construction, was a certified welder and also worked as a tree trimmer. Mr. Long was an outspoken man, smart and capable. A gifted handyman, he was able to fix most anything. He loved drawing, sketching, playing cards and tending his yard and garden. He loved to cook and enjoy good food with his family and friends.
Survivors are his wife, Linda Jean Long of Valdosta; daughters and son in law, Roxie Tyler, Beth and Mark Selph of Valdosta, Angela and Greg Infinger of Clyattville; sons, Timmy Long and Terry Long of Moultrie, brothers and sister in law, Billy and Brenda Long of Valdosta, Bobby Long of Morven; sisters, Barbara Stephenson of Tallahassee, Debbie Long and Sheila Long of Valdosta; grandchildren, Rhonda Hightower, Justin Thornton, Samantha Hightower, Lisa Shaw, Cole Thornton, Tyler Shaw, Brandon Shaw, Ethan Selph, Evan Selph, Kendall Long, Jaylen Long, Aubrey Long, Keaton Long and Savannah Long; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Long will be held on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend George Ehling will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 – 8 p.m. Condolences may be made online at www.mclanecares.com.
