Russell C. Carter, 80, of Lake Park, died on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Langdale Hospice House following a brief illness. He was born in Lake Park on April 4, 1937 to the late Carroll and Gladys Wisenbaker Carter and has been a lifelong resident of this area. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Crackin’ Good Bakery after 36 years. Mr. Carter loved to make Bar-B-Q and family and friends always wanted his famous Bar-B-Q. He coached both boys and girls in little league softball, baseball, and basketball and was a great influence in many young people’s lives. Mr. Carter loved being on his tractor, but especially loved serving his church through the ministry of maintaining and overseeing the church property and grounds. He was a member of Francis Lake Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marie Carter of Lake Park; his son, Tony Carter, also of Lake Park; his daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Rick Register of Statenville; his grandchildren, Colby Carter and his wife, Gabby of Valdosta, Katie Carter of Gainesville, Florida, Kieley Carter of Tallahassee, Florida, Carter Register of Savannah, and Graham Register of Statenville; his sister, Mary Blanton of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robbie and Beverly Carter, Claude and Helen Carter; a sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Earl Morgan; a brother-in-law, Claude Blanton.
Services for Russell C. Carter will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Francis Lake Baptist Church with Rev. Eldridge Lyons officiating. The burial will follow in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at Francis Lake Baptist Church.
