Ruby Platt Whaley

May 6, 1919 — December 22, 2016

A "Celebration of Life" gathering is planned for Ruby Platt Whaley on Wednesday, January 11, at 5 P.M. in the afternoon in the Parish Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church in Gatlinburg. Friends and family will gather to remember and share; a reception will follow.

Graveside services for Ruby Platt Whaley, 97, of Gatlinburg, TN, formerly of Valdosta, will be held Saturday, January 14, 11:00 a.m., in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Clyde B. Stokes will officiate.

Mrs. Whaley was born in Miller county on May 6, 1919, to Benjamin D. and Dora Kelley Rhames. She attended school in Bainbridge, moving to Valdosta in 1934. She worked at Ashley Oaks Restaurant and George Floor Covering in Valdosta. She was a charter member of Greenwood Baptist Church.

After a long illness, Ms. Whaley died December 22 in Gatlinburg. She worked with her granddaughter at Whole Earth Grocery in Gatlinburg from 2000 until 2005.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Russell R. and Dora Jean Paulk; granddaughters Miranda Paulk and Amanda Paulk; great-granddaughters Arwyn Sophia Paulk and Madeline Jane Abston, all of Gatlinburg; several nieces and nephews, including Carl L. and Laura Smith of Valdosta.
