Mrs. Ruby Nell Harris Riggins of Valdosta, age 78, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at Langdale Hospice House following a brief illness. Ms. Riggins was born in Sylacauga, Alabama on May 22, 1932 to the late Eddie Ulysses and Clara Estelle Jones Harris. She graduated from Dadeville High School in Dadeville, Alabama before moving to Georgia where she furthered her education at Perry Business College. She made her home in Homerville before moving to Valdosta 30 years ago. Ms. Riggins was a member of Bells and Bows Square Dance Club, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends at the Senior Center and was an avid Atlanta Braves Baseball fan. She was a member of First Baptist Church and The Joy/Fidelis Sunday School Class, Valdosta.
Survivors include her husband, James Loran Riggins of Valdosta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Orrin & Luann Deason of Tifton, J.R. and Tina Riggins of Valdosta; one daughter and son-in-law, Terri & Harold Wayne Lloyd of Homerville; six grandchildren, Chasity Lloyd Luke (Tommy) of Valdosta, Blair Branch of Atlanta, Nate Branch (Jessica) of Moultrie, Harold Wayne Lloyd, II of Waycross, Emma Lloyd Strickland (Charles) of Ludowici and Owen Riggins of Valdosta; five great grandchildren, Stetson & Evan Strickland of Ludowici, Harold Wayne Lloyd, III of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Gabe & Gracey Luke of Valdosta. Also survived are two sisters, Cluedie Harris Cannon of Sylacauga, Alabama and Christine Harris Patten (Harold) of Birmingham, Alabama; four brothers, Elgin Harris (Doris) of Jackson's Gap Alabama, Linwood Harris of Sylacauga, Alabama, Dewayne Harris (Nancy) of Sherman, Texas and Edward Harris of Valdosta as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Ms. Riggins was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Harris of Homerville and Leavis Harris of Anniston, Alabama; a grandson, Robert Jay Deason of Tifton; and her parents.
A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 24 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Phil West and Rev. Mac Weaver of First Baptist Church officiating, interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 23 from 6 unto 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
