Ruby Halterman Smrcina

Mrs. Ruby Halterman Smrcina, 89, passed away January 1, 2012 at home in Concord, NC., with family at her side.
A funeral service will be held 3:30 PM Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at All Saints Episcopal Church, in Concord, officiated by Rev. Nancy Cox and Rev. Jay Burkhardt, Wilkinson Funeral Home of Concord, in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Friday, January 6, 2012 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, with the Rev. Peter Ingeman of Christ Episcopal Church officiating.
Ruby was born October 6, 1922 in Washington, D.C. to the late William Earl and Ruby Lorentz Halterman. She was also predeceased by her husband, Col. Francis John "Bud" Smrcina. Ruby volunteered as a Brownie Leader and later as a Girl Scouts Leader. She was a substitute teacher for the Valdosta School system for 23 years, and volunteered as a "Pink Lady" for 13 years at South Georgia Medical Center . Ruby was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Concord and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Valdosta for 46 years. She was also a member of "Daughters of The King" in the Episcopal Church.
She is survived by daughters, Anne Kerbe and husband Terry of Concord, NC., Margaret Bolitho and husband Bob of Concord, NC., sons, Tom Smrcina and wife Jeannie of Newnan, GA, John Smrcina and wife Sue of Grand Prarie, TX; sister-in-law, Hazel Smrcina of KY; a niece, Linda Spillers of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Jason and Justin Kerbe, Taylor and Cameron Bolitho, Ashley and Blake Smrcina, John Richard Smrcina, Jeri Bordelon; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 525 Lake Concord Rd., Concord, NC 28025.
