RUBY ELIZABETH HAY HOLLAND, 94, longtime resident of Valdosta and South Georgia died on April 21, 2008 at the Brooks County Hospital in Quitman from an extended illness. Mrs. Holland, the oldest of eleven children, born on December 29, 1913 in Crisp County to the late John Melton and Emma Roberta Barber Hay, was a mother and homemaker married to the late Wendell H. Holland, born in Monticello, Georgia and died in March of 1975. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1959.
Survivors include her brother and sister in law, F. Marion and Marilyn Hay of Moultrie, he sister, Mattie Sue Hay Sherrill of Statesville, NC. her six children and their spouses, James W. and Sandy Holland of Indialantic By-the-Sea, Fla., John R. Holland of Valdosta, Joseph H. and Inita Holland of Tallahassee, Fla., Kay Holland McLean and Pete McLean of Birmingham, Ala., Justin M. Holland of Madison, Ala. and Leila Joy Holland Braswell of Casselberry, Fla., 11-grandchildren and 10-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, April 25, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Mason, Jr., senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church presiding and Pastor Tony Kelly of the Community Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Fla. will give the eulogy. The burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7-9pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Valdosta.
