Royce A. Noles

April 24, 1920 — February 11, 2005

Royce Ancil Noles, 84, of Valdosta, died Friday, February 11, 2005 at Fellowship Home in Brooks County. He was born on April 24, 1920 in Berrien County to the late Richard Ancil and Rosie Virginia Johnson Noles. Mr. Noles served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937 – 1939 and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II in the New Guinea and Luzon Campaigns receiving the American Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He met his future wife, Ruby Hunt Noles during training in California and again in the Philippines during World War II returning to Valdosta where they lived together for fifty six years. He worked six years for Foremost Dairy and thirty years for Hava Tampa Cigar Co. until his retirement. He was an active member of Forrest Park Church of Christ where he drove a church bus for several years.

Survivors include one daughter and son in law, Karen and Perry Baskin of Valdosta, two sons and daughter in law, Randy and Karen Noles of Tallahassee, Florida, and Robert Noles of Orlando, Florida, 12 grandchildren, Kelly Holmes, Rhett Burroughs, Ciara Noles, MaDonna McAllister, Constance Smith, Brent Noles, Tony Noles, Shad Burroughs, Shane Burroughs, Tiffany Sims, Otto Baskin, Stephen Baskin, 12 great grandchildren, 30 nieces and nephews, and 4 sisters, Bessie Johnson of Griffin, Mamie Ruth Nickelson of Valdosta, Leila Mae Miller of Valdosta, Lucille Browning of Lakeland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hunt Noles, 2 brothers and 4 sisters, Richard Lawson Noles, Sammy Noles, Gracie Conine, Lillie Bell Wheeler, Lucy Monchrief and Oleta Daugharty.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sunday, February 13, 2005 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Jason Roberts and Ray Joyner officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forrest Park Church of Christ. Visitation for family and friends was held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Saturday evening at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
